He has also served as a board member of the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) and the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF). Additionally, he has held key positions in KMA’s Nairobi Chapter, including Vice Chairperson and Hon. Secretary.
Early in his career, Dr. Were co-founded and served as the first president of the Medical Students Association of Kenya (MSAKE). He was also instrumental in the formation of the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union (KMPDU), serving as Secretary General from 2012 to 2013. Dr. Were is a co-founder of Daktari Media Africa, which operates Daktari Online, a platform providing high-quality medical education to over 15,000 healthcare professionals in East Africa.
Dr. Were is also a visiting consultant at several major hospitals in Nairobi, including Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral & Research Hospital (KUTRRH), MP Shah Hospital, Lifecare Group of Hospitals, and Nairobi West Hospital.
